PACIFIC ISLANDS FESTVAL EUROPE 2013

The basic idea of the festival is to provide a platform for the South Pacific Islanders to preserve, present and share the love for their culture. At the same time their children who grow up here in Europe have the opportunity to learn about their cultures and to socialize with their peers, by means of workshops and various activities.

This year, for the first time, we are making the festival a public event. We welcome all the locals of Basel and the surrounding area to come join us to celebrate culture, history and tradition the Pacific way! The Europeans will have lots of fun with the workshops provided with arts, crafts and activities from different islands for both children and adults, for both young and old. This will be followed by an extravagant Pacific dinner buffet and then the highlight of our festival: the Pacific dances! Each year over 10 and more South Pacific dance groups from all over Europe and North America come together to put their skills to the test – and the number keeps growing. The dancers make a huge effort to present original music, authentic choreography and original costumes this is something you do not get to see too often.

The Pacific Festival Europe is a unique experience for everyone involved. Not only does the event promote Pacific culture but also the Pacific atmosphere: the easy-going, warm-hearted nature is shared throughout the festival, with lots of joy and laughter. This festival is a piece of home for the islanders and a piece of Pacific paradise for our European guests!

The festival will take place on Saturday 10 August, 2013 in Basel in Gundeldinger-Feld-Quartier.

PACIFIC ISLANDS FESTIVAL EUROPE 2013

SHARING THE LOVE AND THE PASSION FOR OUR PACIFIC ISLAND CULTURE!

Talofa Lava

I want to thank my family in Australia for the knowledge, inspiration, power, understanding, and their trust in me and their honesty. A deep thanks to Mom and Dad, brothers and sisters, who keep me in their hearts to be somebody. Sincere thanks to Samoa whose heart, soul and spirit will guide me forever.
Sincere thanks to my friends who guide me even when it's not easy.

Our Family

In Samoa the aiga (extended family) is all important. Every village is composed of several aiga.

The larger the aiga the more important it is and more power it can wield in village affairs.

This leads to what is usually, healthy competition between aiga.

Fa`a Samoa

Fa'a Samoa, means the Samoan Way. This is an all encompassing concept that dictates how Samoans are meant to behave.

It refers to the obligations that a Samoan owes to the family, community and church, and the individuals sense of Samoan identity
